(if the date listed here is not today, it means that no posting has been made yet) posted at 640am on friday march 27, 2004.... last night, new york city's emergency 911 system went out of order for two hours. that meant there could be no calls for help to police, fire or ambulances. according to city authorities the problem, was created by sloppy maintenance done by verizon, the local telephone company. thus, the entire city was put into serious danger by a telephone company that is cited over and over again as one of the worst in the united states. the 911 outage did not affect the use of the city's pay phones since most of them do not work anyway. verizon is currently outsourcing many of its jobs to foreign lands. the two hour delay in repairing the problem was probably caused by the fact that verizon didn't have personnel in new york city who could fix the problem.
